Global Student Loan Corporation

Are you seeking loans to finance your education at a college or university?

Do you need funds to pay for your degree or non-degree courses?

Global Student Loan Corporation can help make your goal of studying in the U.S. or in other selected countries a reality. Through our partners, GSLC can help ease your financial constraints and streamline your overall loan application process.

The Global Student Loan® is the ONLY comprehensive education loan for international and distance learning students who are non-U.S. citizens that does not require a cosigner in the country in which you are studying. For example, if you seek to study in the U.S., you are not required to have a U.S. cosigner.

We partner with financial institutions throughout the world to provide education loans that meet international students' special needs. In many cases, principal payments may be deferred until graduation when your education will help you secure more financially rewarding career positions. In addition, most loan repayment schedules are spread over a longer period of time than typical consumer loans to significantly reduce your monthly payments.

In addition to covering your tuition, the Global Student Loan® provides funding for other school essentials such as computers, insurance, communications, travel, and housing. GSLC partners with schools and other service providers to fund these other educational expenses so that your attendance is not delayed.

We provide an individual Loan Certificate that may be used to demonstrate adequate funding to attend school, a requirement for securing a student Visa.

Our commitment to you stems from Global Student Loan Corporation’s belief that an education is the best investment an individual and a society can make. The Global Student Loan® offers students who are non-U.S. citizens from around the globe the opportunity to attain a world-class education.

We recognize that selecting and attending the school of your choice is one of the biggest decisions of your life. Global Student Loan Corporation helps make your dream come true.

By facilitating education loans for international students who are non-U.S. citizens, Global Student Loan Corporation helps put the world through school.

Architecture Scholarships and Grants

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) at www.aia.org and the American Architectural Foundation (AAF) at www.archfoundation.org are two of the foremost providers of architecture scholarships. The American Architectural Foundation educates the public and promotes awareness of the impact of architecture on where, and how, we live. They offer scholarships through the American Institute of Architects.

A list of scholarships available from the American Institute of Architects follows. Additional application information and forms are available through the AIA website at www.aia.org.

AIA/AAF Minority Disadvantaged Scholarship Program

The AIA/AAF Minority Disadvantaged Scholarship assists high school graduates, college freshmen, and community college students from a minority and/or financially disadvantaged background. Scholarships are awarded to students who intend to pursue an accredited professional degree in architecture.

To be eligible for this scholarship applicants must be legal residents of the United States and either a high school senior entering a NAAB (National Architecture Accrediting Board) professional program in architecture, or a college freshmen attending a NAAB accredited professional program in architecture, or a technical school or community college student that has completed high school or its equivalent and is intending to transfer to a NAAB accredited professional program.

AIA Component Matching Grant Program
The American Institute of Architects is committed to contributing to the preparation of graduates who will meet the current and future challenges in a swiftly evolving profession. The AIA believes that the investment to support the education of future professionals is a crucial part of its mission (AIA website).

The AIA will match another scholarship award to support local and state components, or their affiliated foundations, in providing and developing scholarship programs. They offer matching grants to augment existing programs and to reinforce the significance of the AIA in the lives of architects, aspiring students and their communities.

To be eligible for this scholarship the recipient must have at least one other scholarship valued at $500 or more and must adhere to documentation submission and reporting requirements. The scholarship must be used for a full time professional degree program accredited by NAAB.

The American Institute of Architects ProNet David W. Lakamp AIA Scholarship
Mr. Lakamp was a founder of a/e ProNet (an insurance company) and a trusted advisor to the profession. He left behind a legacy of professionalism and integrity that set new standards in the field of insurance services (AIA website). This $2,500 annual award is given to a student who best demonstrates strong interest in practice management.

Eligible candidates will have completed three years in a NAAB degree program or, the third year of a four-year pre-professional degree program in architecture accepted for direct entry to a two-year NAAB MArch/DArch program, or one year in an NAAB MArch/DArch degree program for students with undergraduate degrees in another discipline.

2009 Corporate Architects and Facility Management Scholarship
This scholarship is administered in conjunction with the staff of the National Architectural Accrediting Board, approved programs of architecture in the United States, and the RAIC Canadian schools of architecture.

To be eligible applicants must be enrolled and working toward their first professional degree in architecture. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic performance, a recommendation letter and an essay.

The number of awards is based on available funds in the given year and amounts range normally between $1000 and $2 500.

Jason Pettigrew ARE Scholarship Award
NAC Architecture has established this award in honor of Jason Pettigrew. The purpose of the award is to recognize the significant contributions of interns at an early stage of their career, and to help encourage them to complete their licensure by helping with the cost of the exam. Awards are not based on financial need, as much as they are based on contributions the intern has made to their profession and/or their community.

The African American Intern Scholarship
African-American students, who will begin their final year of a NAAB-accredited architecture program in the fall of 2010, are eligible to apply for the Gensler African American Internship and Scholarship. Two winners are awarded scholarship funds, paid directly to their college or university, toward their final academic year. In addition to academic scholarships, one winner is awarded a paid summer internship in a Gensler regional office. The internship winner is paired with a Gensler mentor, serving as a resource for their internship period and final academic year.

There are other architectural scholarships available through colleges as well as private philanthropists but without a doubt, these are the scholarships aimed at supporting up and coming architects specifically.

A career in architecture can be very lucrative and rewarding on a number of levels. If financial hardship is an obstacle for you then a great many funding providers are happy to assist if you are willing to do the homework. Even if financial hardship isn’t an issue for you or your family, finding some help with education is worth the effort it will afford you to begin your occupation debt free.

Being organized is half the battle when it comes to scholarship applications. Before doing the scholarship rounds prepare yourself. Write a great cover letter and if an essay is required, write a generic one which can be tailored specifically to the funder later. Make it personal and compelling. Get together all the references you can from teachers, employers and anyone else who will attest to your exceptional skills. Put it all together in a folder along with personal and income details and have it handy when opportunities arise. What seems like an onerous task now will make funding applications a breeze later.

Architecture Scholarship Programs

Kick-Start your Career with Architecture Scholarships
Without architects we might have mud-huts for dwellings. Architects combine both form and function into the buildings in which we live, work and play, all over the globe, from rural to urban. Typical undergraduate programs last five years, with the first year focused on core curricula. There are countless architecture programs all over the U.S. and increasing opportunities for study abroad within the major, as well. Between college funding and that provided through private and professional organizations, scholarship monies are just as abundant.

Private Funding
The American Architectural Foundation (AAF) is a not-for-profit organization whose main mission is to enlighten others on the role of architecture in the fabric of our communities. To those ends the AAF administers a number of scholarships that encourage students to pursue the study of architecture:

American Architectural Foundation and Sir John Soane‘s Museum Foundation Traveling Fellowships are designed for graduate architecture students who wish to study abroad in England. Applicants must exhibit serious interest in the works of John Soane to be considered. Awards are $5,000.

RTKL Traveling Fellowships are funded by a partner architecture firm and offer generous scholarship money to architecture majors.

AAF Minority/Disadvantaged Scholarships go to architecture majors or high school seniors enrolling in an architecture program. Recipients are chosen on the basis of academic merit, financial need and/or minority status from pool of applicants. Awards may be as much as $2,500, depending on financial need.

The Architects League of Northern New Jersey provides a number of highly competitive scholarships restricted to applicants living only in certain New Jersey counties:

Albert O. Halse Memorial Scholarship goes to an exemplary undergraduate architectural major whose talent lies in modeling.

Architects League Scholastic Achievement goes to applicants with outstanding academic records in their major.

Clarence Tabor Memorial Scholarships are awarded to majors in their last year, which for architecture majors is year five. Scholarships are given based on a range of criteria.

World Studio Foundation is an international organization devoted to promotion of the arts and creative education. Through programs, funding for organizations and scholarships, World Studio hopes to continue to enlighten the world on the force of creative collaboration and the importance of art at all levels. Scholarships are available for a smorgasbord of creative fields, including architecture. Applicants must be enrolled in a four-year program, majoring in architecture to qualify. Also preference is given to minorities and all applicants must demonstrate significant financial need. Awards vary.

The Joseph L. and Vivian A. Steele Architecture Scholarship Fund is administered by The Foundation for Enhancing Communities and provides money to upper level undergraduate or graduate architecture students.

College Scholarships

Architecture majors at Syracuse University may be eligible for the CIB Foundation, Inc. Scholarships. These scholarships are awarded to outstanding seniors who have completed an internship or co-op program affording them hands-on experience. Awards are $1,500.

Architecture majors at Iowa State University study in the standard five-year architecture degree plan within the College of Design. The program sponsors the following scholarships for architecture majors:

Henningson, Durham and Richardson Awards are given to those majors in their final year who are able to demonstrate a commitment to the field through academic achievement and a written essay. Financial need is also a requirement. Awards are $1,000.

HLM Design Scholarships are also carefully meted out to majors in their last year. Awards are made on the basis of academic achievement and extracurricular involvement in field-specific activities. Awards are $1,000.

American Institute of Architects-Iowa Chapter Scholarships are given to undergraduates who exhibit talent in the design aspects of the major. Scholarships are $500.
